Democratic Primary Election Results

Hillary is having another tough night at the polls and looking ahead to Hawaii and Wisconsin, where she hasn't campaigned much, and it looks like Obama can run his streak to 10 straight wins.  The talk is that she's looking towards Texas and Ohio as "firewall" states next month.  In the meantime, Obama will be riding a wave of momentum and will likely continue to outraise Clinton as the money pours into his campaign.  Is this the end of Hillary?!  Not likely and here's why.

The republican candidate is going to be John McCain.  That race is all but locked up at this point as McCain will take all 60 Virginia delegates with his win this evening.  The republican turnout has been low in state after state and that will continue now that the race is already decided.  The excitement is on the democratic side as you can see by the huge turnout and the close race.  The delegate count is almost even and it's unlikely either candidate will break away and capture the nomination ahead of the convention in August.  So why do I still think Hillary will win?  In a brokered convention, who would you put your money on when it's the backroom dealings that will decide the candidate?  Obama or the Clinton machine?

It's also very likely that the democratic nominee will win the general election.  McCain has his backers, but he still isn't connecting with the diehard conservative base.  They don't trust McCain and think he's thumbed his nose at them on too many important pieces of legislation.  Even some of the most influential conservatives say they won't vote for him.  They'd rather see a democrat destroy the country so people come back to their conservative roots rather than see McCain captain that ship down the toilet.  That said, Hillary knows that only Obama stands in her way of getting the power she craves.  We all know the sordid history of what happens to people who get in the Clinton's way on their quest for power.

Hillary will win this at the convention in the smoke filled back rooms as she and Bill make their deals with the super delegates and anyone else who can tip this in their direction.  Their DNC operatives will try to placate Obama and promise him he's next in line or tell him whatever they need to say to keep him quiet.  Black voters may feel disenfranchised, but when it comes to the Clintons, they don't care who they hurt as long as they get what they want.  Also, Hillary has focused on Hispanic voters and conceded the black vote.  She figures if she can win this nomination without the black vote she can surely win in November without them.  She figures they won't vote for a republican no matter what, so the worst that happens is that they stay home.  It's also much more likely they'll vote for her anyway.

Well, that's my prediction.  I hope I'm wrong because I can't afford the vision Hillary has of the country.  Maybe I should denounce my citizenship, learn Spanish, work under the table and be pandered to like all the illegals she'll welcome into the country.  God help us all.

News from Iraq

Here's some news from Iraq you're not likely to read in the NY Times.  The U.S. military has uncovered documents from some Al Qaeda safe houses in Iraq.  In one 39 page letter they say Al-Qaeda faces an "extraordinary crisis" and last year's Sunni defection from al-Qaeda to the U.S. military "created panic, fear and the unwillingness to fight".  These are words of one of al-Qaeda's leaders in Anbar province which was a former stronghold for them.

The second document is a bitter 16 page testament written last October by a local al-Qaeda leader near Balad which is north of Baghdad. "I am Abu-Tariq, emir of the al-Layin and al-Mashahdah sector", the author begins.  He goes on to describe how his force of 600 shrank to fewer than 20.

I doubt this story will even see the NY times because it's the Times and democrats in congress who believe the United States has already lost the war.  However, what happens when/if Hillary or Obama wins the presidency?  Are they going to pull out of Iraq and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory turning that country over to a re-invigorated al-Qaeda or possible Iran?  That would be devastating not only to our military, but would be ammunition to all of America's enemies everywhere.  If we do get Hillary or Obama, I hope they'll be willing to listen to our military leaders before leading us down that dangerous path.

Michigan and Florida

Earlier this evening I wrote that it doesn't matter how well Obama does, Hillary is going to win the democratic nomination by hook or crook.  Well, for those of you who don't know what's going on with some of the primaries, let me tell you what the Clintons are already up to.

When Michigan and Florida moved up their primaries, against the DNC's wishes, they were penalized.  They were told that their delegates would not be seated at the convention and the candidates wouldn't campaign in those states.  I believe Obama's name didn't even appear on the Michigan ballot.  Still, Hillary went to Florida and did a little campaigning there ahead of their primary.  The Clintons, now desperate as Obama surges, are trying to re-write the rules and have these delegates seated after all.

When Obama wins Wisconsin next week, I expect the desperation will continue and the Clinton Machine will ratchet up the dirty tricks.
